Energy Star Rating & Energy Saving Tips

Energy Star Label

As we all know, the Carbon Tax will take place in July, so now is the time to be smart and cut back on how much energy we are consuming.

If you are looking to buy new appliances for your home or business such as Microwaves, T.V’s, Ovens etc, look out for the Energy Star rating. This label indicates it is energy efficient; the more stars it has the more energy efficient that particular appliance is.

As well as keeping an eye out for the energy star rating, there are a few things you can do yourself to reduce energy consumption and save yourself endless amounts of money:

- Turn off all appliances at the switch when you are not using them, e.g. Computer, T.V and Gaming Consoles, as standby power uses excessive amount of energy and does not save you money and reduces the life of your appliances. Consider purchasing an Ecoswitch as they turn off all your standby power at the flick of a switch.

- When purchasing a new computer consider a laptop, as it uses around 60W of power, whereas a Desktop uses 300W.

- When it comes to bathing time choose to have a shower rather then a bath. 5 minute showers are sufficient, if you need to, buy a timer.

- Wash your dishes in a sink rather then using a dishwasher.

- Only run the dishwasher when it’s full.

- When washing clothes, only put a full load on.

- Turn off the lights once you leave the room.

- When you wake up in the morning, instead of turning the light on, open your curtains and let light into your room that way.

- Save energy by drying your clothes on the clothes line rather than using the dryer.

- If you can, switch from electric to gas hot water.

- Try and use a Microwave to cook your meal whenever possible, as it uses less than half the energy of an oven.

- Switch over to energy saving light globes, e.g Compact Fluorescent lamps such as Earthmates or LED lamps.

ANL Lighting – Worlds Greatest Shave

The Worlds Greatest Shave

On the 6th of March, ANL Lighting held a BBQ for the Worlds Greatest Shave to help raise money for the Leukemia Foundation in finding a cure.

As some of you may already know, Leukemia is a type of cancer that affects the blood and bone marrow.  Someone very close to us is currently in remission from this disease and they were a main reason for our involvement in the shave for a cure.  This person has been such an inspiration to all of us at ANL, showing us that our lives should not be taken for granted and that we should live everyday full of joy and happiness.

First off, we started with a delicious BBQ of hamburgers, sausages, salads and my favourite part, the desserts! As everyone was munching into their food, Jemma went around the room collecting a gold coin donation; everyone was more then willing to put in a bit extra.

Eddy Jnr came up with a crazy, yet amazing idea of auctioning off the male staff members’ hair, as he believed we could raise even more money. The volunteers were, Eddy Jnr, Leigh, Eddy Snr, Trevor, Stephen, Phil, Robert, Dylan, Fred and John. As the auction was getting hotter and hotter, hands were going up in every direction of the room biding for the hair they wanted to shave off, “$50, $100, $150, $200 SOLD”! Leigh told all us girls that the highest bidder got to do what ever they wanted to his hair and that he would keep it like that for a week, Phil had to shave his hair and chest and Trevor shaved his head and beard.

Total money raised:

$1,880 – Hair Bidding

$500 was also donated on behalf of ANL Lighting.

$227 – Gold coin donation pot

$1,750 – Previous donations

All in all, it was one very successful day with everyone in the company donating to such a great cause, we were able raise over $4,300.

ANL's Awards Nights photos

On the 22nd of December 2011, ANL Lighting celebrated its 12th Annual Awards night at Leonda by the Yarra.

ANL holds an Awards night at the end of every year, not only to acknowledge a very successful financial year but to also recognize all the obstacles that we continue to overcome during the year as a company.

ANL also takes the time to acknowledge all the staff members who have reached certain milestones. Trophies are presented to those who have worked endlessly all year to achieve their goals. Kristy Adams, who joined us in June, was awarded the “Rookie of the Year” award, which acknowledges an overall improvement, in areas such as attendance, most improved new staff member, increase in overall sales, willingness to help others and all-in-all a team player.

ANL also awards one of the sales team with the “Sales Team of the Year” award; this award recognizes the most improved team overall for the year. Last year the Cougars team came out on top, but this year The A Team, also known as the Ladettes, stole the stage.

As well as an Awards night, we also like to celebrate our Christmas Breakup with a three course meal, band and a stage to dance on. The whole night was a huge success, all staff members had a memorable night, the food was exquisite and the band was very entertaining.

ANL Lighting is continually growing and moving forward to becoming a larger company, we would not be as successful as we are today if it was not for our faithful clients. ANL would like to take the opportunity to thank all of our customers and partners for your continuous support and patience throughout the year.  We wish you all the best for 2012 and we hope you also have a successful financial year. ANL Lighting looks forward to being your partner in light…for life.
